Kodak Ektar 100

So I tried some Kodak Ektar 100 over the weekend. I used my Nikon F100 and 50mm lens. I am pretty sure I shot this film too overexposed. I am used to doing this for other films such as Fuji 400h and getting good results. But with the Ektar 100 I think just the slightest overexposure messed up the shots. They are incredibly sharp, but not in a good way. They almost look like an Instagram photo with too many filters applied. They are also too high contrast for my taste. I have seen people shoot this film with amazing results so this is obviously an error on my part. Either way here are my results. Let me know if you have any tips ! and I will be giving it another shot (no pun intended) and next time I will just trust the meter (I usually don’t).

Waiting for the ferry in Anacortes, we missed the first one so spent 3 hours waiting for the next. Luckily it was a nice day so we just walked around the beach and took photos. Even ran into a snake ! Eww

Do you see how dark the blacks are and how over sharpened the image is ? Not a fan 😦

This shot is much better, I must have exposed it properly. It is so much softer with less harsh shadows. This is the only shot I like of the roll.

Most of these shots were taken at f4 and metered with the in camera meter

  1. I used a roll of Ektar several years ago and got some odd (to my eye) colours. The colour of the water in your photographs reminds me of that. Like you, I’ve seen some very good Ektar photos online so I probably didn’t use it correctly. I recently bought a couple of rolls for my Contax 645 and I’m going to try again, being more careful about exposure this time.
I also like the photo of the net (railing?).

    • Hey, hope it works out for you this time ! I think I realized that the look I was trying to get (while shooting in overhead sun) is better achieved with Portra 160 so Im going to try that when I have free time again.
